Description
Bixib-TC 4mg
Etoricoxib 60 mg and Thiocolchicoside 4 mg
This is a fixed-dose combination used for the treatment of painful musculoskeletal conditions, especially when inflammation and muscle spasm coexist. It combines:
- Etoricoxib: A selective COX-2 inhibitor NSAID with potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
- Thiocolchicoside: A muscle relaxant with anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, derived from the plant Colchicum autumnale.
Mechanism of Action
Etoricoxib:
- Selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2)
- Reduces prostaglandin synthesis, which causes pain and inflammation.
- Spares COX-1 (thus has fewer GI side effects than traditional NSAIDs).
Thiocolchicoside:
- Acts as a GABA-A receptor agonist and also modulates glycine receptors.
- Leads to muscle relaxation by inhibiting spinal reflexes and muscle contractions.
- Does not cause sedation like other muscle relaxants (e.g., benzodiazepines).
Indications (Uses)
This combination is typically prescribed for:
- Acute low back pain
- Cervical or lumbar spondylosis
- Muscle spasms
- Sprains or strains
- Post-traumatic muscle stiffness
- Sciatica or disc herniation with inflammation and spasm
- Arthritis with muscular pain
Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dose:
One tablet once or twice daily (based on severity and clinical judgment) - Route: Oral, preferably after food to reduce gastric irritation.
