Description
BARENIA-M 75 mg
Pregabalin 75mg + Methyl cobalamin 750mcg
This is a neuropathic pain-relieving combination drug. It contains:
- Pregabalin: A gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) analog that modulates calcium channel activity in the nervous system, reducing nerve signal hyperactivity and pain transmission.
- Methyl cobalamin: The active and bioavailable form of Vitamin B12, crucial for healthy nerve function, DNA synthesis, and regeneration of damaged nerves.
Together, they offer synergistic effects in managing nerve pain and supporting nerve repair.
Mechanism of Action
Pregabalin:
- Binds to the α2δ subunit of presynaptic calcium channels in the CNS.
- Inhibits excitatory neurotransmitter release.
- Reduces nerve signal over activity, relieving neuropathic pain, seizures, and anxiety symptoms.
Methyl cobalamin:
- Promotes myelin sheath formation and axon regeneration.
- Improves neuronal conduction.
- Supports the repair of damaged peripheral nerves.
- Corrects Vitamin B12 deficiency that may contribute to neuropathy.
Indications
This combination is used for:
- Peripheral neuropathy (diabetic, alcoholic, chemotherapy-induced)
- Sciatica / Lumbar radiculopathy
- Cervical spondylotic myelopathy
- Postherpetic neuralgia
- Trigeminal neuralgia
- Fibromyalgia (as off-label use)
- Neuropathic pain of unknown origin
Dosage
- Recommended dose:
One capsule once or twice daily
(usually after meals to reduce gastric discomfort) - Duration:
Typically 4–12 weeks or longer depending on clinical response.
